Nine year old writes iPhone drawing app

They say it is a good idea to start projects from a young age. Nine-year-old Lim Ding Wen has taken this advice to heart by adapting his first application to the iPhone. His app, which allows users to draw various shapes and colours using their fingers on the iPhone's touchscreen, has already reportedly been downloaded 4000 times already since it was uploaded about two weeks ago.

The iPhone is already known for its impressive ability to handle graphics and gameplay for a range of games, including Armageddon Squadron, and Brothers in Arms - Hour of Heroes. With its intuitive high resolution touchscreen interface and faster 3G connection speeds, the iPhone naturally provides an interesting platform for running games. Rumours at Mac World Expo 2009 suggest the iPhone could become a serious competitor for the Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, and other portable game devices.

iPhone Nano rumours ahead of Macworld 2009

With Macworld 2009 starting on January 5th without Steve Jobs, speculation that Apple will launch a new version of the iPhone is growing. One popular idea, mentioned in the press and on numerous blogs over the last few days, is that a new 'nano' version of the iPhone will be announced at the expo.

The iPhone: a remote control for your home?

Few consumer devices in recent years have spawned such a wide array of applications as the iPhone. Thanks to Apple's nascent and very popular app store, we're regularly seeing plenty of interesting new features brought to the iPhone. One new trend that seems to be taking off is to use the iPhone as a remote control to handle a range of things in your home. Anything from your home security system to your TV and lighting can now be controlled at the touch of a finger using your iPhone 3G.

iPhone 3G UK ad 'misleading'

The UK's Advertising Standards Agency ("ASA") ruled today that Apple had misled consumers in its latest iPhone 3G TV advertisement. Complaints to the watchdog focused on Apple's claim that "all the parts of the Internet are on the iPhone", whereas iPhone does not currently support Flash or Java, making it difficult to browse certain websites.

iPod Nano fire risk in Japan

KTLA Reporter Eric Spillman did his very best to annoy a few iPhone fans queuing for the new iPhone 3G in Burbank. Although it's true some Apple fans are willing to go to great lengths to be the first to try out the new iPhone, his comments are far from polite. In this clip, you see him testing the patience of a couple of innocent people in the queue.

WWDC 2008: iPhone 3G announced

As widely anticipated, today Steve Jobs revealed the launch date for the brand new iPhone 3G. Starting from £100 for the 8GB model, the new iPhone will be released in most major locations on 11 July 2008, and rolled out in around 70 locations in the world. Thinner than its predecessor, it will offer much faster download speed, enjoy a longer battery life and be GPS-enabled - amongst a range of other new features. Compared to the £269 UK customers were asked to pay for the original iPhone, as you can expect this news has been greeted warmly overall.

Bye bye, EDGE?

Finally, the 3G iPhone is ready to be unveiled very soon. The days of suffering from slow over-the-air web surfing are reportedly about to end in the US. We expect that few people will complain, but it will be interesting to see how fast the iPhone becomes compared to when the only alternative was EDGE (in the absence of Wi-Fi).
