It seems that the Blackberry Storm, launched in October 2008 in the UK, is enjoying a good reception from buyers. Analysts are wondering whether this device could provide serious competition for the Apple iPhone 3G, which has seen impressive sales growth since it was launched in July this year.
Recent research carried out by ChangeWave Research suggests that the Blackberry Storm is popular with smartphone buyers. ChangeWave carried out a survey among 3,803 mobile phone owners in the US, focusing on the smartphone market and the reaction to the Blackberry Storm versus the Apple iPhone. The survey indicated that a total of 12.2% of respondents intended to buy a smartphone in the next 3 months, an increase of 0.3% versus the previous survey. Apple has continued to witness very strong growth in market share, up 6% since September and more than doubling in the last 6 months on the back of the iPhone 3G. While the market leader Blackberry's Research In Motion (RIM) has fallen by 1 point to 41% in the latest survey, it does appear that RIM could be well positioned to take advantage of the next few months, with many respondents indicating they intend to buy one of their products. The survey goes on to review how users compare the Blackberry Storm versus the Apple iPhone, including some of their likes and dislikes.
