My Touch Keys - simple yet effective?
on 27-03-2008

We keep on hearing about people complaining that the screen of their iPhone is full of smudges and that they just can't get to grips with the Apple iPhone's touchscreen keyboard. They seem to make a lot of typos, and the spell correction doesn't always guess correctly what they're trying to write. Here's one answer we've come across: My Touch Keys.

Someone had to come up with this eventually. Although we don't find the iPhone's touchscreen keyboard to be much of an issue, we've had time to practice and usually people take some time to adjust. Then, there's the eternal complaint about greasy smudges on that beautiful screen.

My Touch Keys is supposed to help improve your precision when typing.Using static cling and no adhesive, My Touch Keys is a simple transparent cutout you just stick on the screen of your iPhone, without leaving any traces behind. The idea is that it is supposed to help you be more accurate using your fingertips when you type on your iPhone. And that's supposed to lead to fewer typos. At $7.99 for two, it may be a good investment for those of you with slightly oversized fingers!

To allow you to see it, the one in the photo has a blue tint, but it is totally transparent so apparently doesn't interfere with watching movies or with the sensation of touching the screen (tapping, scrolling etc). Oh, and it's supposed to help protect your screen as well.

Now that's all well and good, but we're not sure what people will need to do if they switch to using the keyboard in horizontal format (using Safari)? Having this cover on your iPhone surely must defeat the purpose of having such flexibility. Perhaps a landscape version is in the pipeline.

We also suspect some of you who worship the design of the iPhone might dislike adding something like this on top of the beautiful, minimalist screen. Has anyone tried using one of these before? Let us know.

not for me

this is a bit silly isn't it? I want to be able to switch my iPhone anytime I want, having this thing stick to my screen isn't gonna help me use Safari much is it now? Don't think much of the idea overall - agree it will make my iPhone look worse. $7.99? even with the strength of the pound that doesn't seem like value to me.
:eek
