As widely anticipated, today Steve Jobs revealed the launch date for the brand new iPhone 3G. Starting from £100 for the 8GB model, the new iPhone will be released in most major locations on 11 July 2008, and rolled out in around 70 locations in the world. Thinner than its predecessor, it will offer much faster download speed, enjoy a longer battery life and be GPS-enabled - amongst a range of other new features. Compared to the £269 UK customers were asked to pay for the original iPhone, as you can expect this news has been greeted warmly overall.

Of course, Microsoft are heavily invested in the mobile phone sector, so you would expect them to be very focused on the launch of this new competitor in their marketplace, the iPhone.

That's worked very well for some in the past, so inevitably, when the launch of the iPhone was announced, some people became very excited.
